PLAZA SERIES: Scambooty
Scambooty weaves jazz, folk, blues, jump, country and the Great American Songbook into tight 3-part vocals spanning the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s, as well as songs influenced by American Roots Music. Their wide range of musical styles varies from the early swing of the Boswell Sisters, to Cab Calloway, to the hip light jazz of Dan Hicks, and even some Lyle Lovett for a bit of Texas swing. Other influences on Scambooty include Fats Domino, Sister Wynona Carr, Duke Ellington and Wynonie Harris. The band members, who have performed together in various musical groups since the 1970s, include Steve Coon (guitar/vocals), Kathy Coon (vocals), Mandi Stanley (vocals), Tom Morrison (bass/harmonica/vocals) and Bill Severance (drums/vocals).
