18 Jan Beyond Embodiment Opens January 25
Brand Library & Art Center presents a unique art experience that probes the boundaries of body and being through actual and virtual space. Curated by Laura Darlington and Selwa Sweidan, Beyond Embodiment features 25 pioneering female, nonbinary, and trans artists exhibiting work in a dizzying array of media including sculpture, photography, video, animation, painting, collage, ceramics, neon, bio-art, scent technology, interactive media, augmented reality, and performance. Physicality, identity, and presence are explored and biological systems, from the primordial to the posthuman, are examined and transfigured by technology. Situating the body as form and function, material and process, site and portal, these artists investigate the potentialities of the human condition.
The Opening Reception on Saturday, January 25th from 6-9PM will feature a special interactive live performance of “Proximity Cinéma” by Tiffany Trenda.
